There are many, even hundreds depending on the location, earthquakes every day.  Most of them are of very low intensity and are not felt by the humans.  Many animals can detect smaller tremors than we do.

Collecting this data is important to be able to model and try to predict bigger earthquakes, that also has a consequence on the building code of some regions.
