ASSIGNMENT

1. A resistance of 6ohms is connected in series with another of 3ohms. If a potential difference of 9V is applied across the combination, what is the p.d. across the 6ohms resistance.

Answer:

Equivalent resistance in series = 6 + 3 = 9 ohms

Current = V/R (ohm's law)

Current = 9/9 = 1 A

P.D. across 6 ohms = IR (ohm's law)

= 1A × 6Ω = 6V
