So. I would start by looking at an equation (The rec. will stand for reciprocal). 6(rec.x)=2(rec.3). I would simplify the right side first: 2(1/3); 2/3. Then I'd move the 6 over. 6(rec.x)/6=(2/3)/6; rec.x=2/3*1/6; rec.x=2/18; rec.x=1/9. Then I'd apply the reciprocal to each side. x=9 (the reciprocal of the reciprocal of x would just be x). So that means the number is 9.
