To find how much Sarah grew, we must subtract the two heights at ages 11 and 12 years old.

50 1/4 = 50.25
48 1/2 = 48.50

50.25 - 48.50 = 1.75, or 1 3/4

Sarah grew a total of 1 3/4 inches throughout the year.
