What is Atlas and why do we call the geography map is Atlas?

An atlas is a book of maps or charts.
Atlas was a giant (called a Titan, its Greek) who was forced to carry the Earth and the heavens (usually pictured as a sphere) on his back. Thats where they got that name from.
