How can a reader find the main idea of a passage?

The main idea of a passage is the point of passage, the central or most important of all. It states the purpose and the direction of the passage. It could either be implied or stated. In finding the main idea, one can summarize the passage and look for clues of repetition of ideas, while avoiding making your own main idea.
