The balanced chemical reaction is:

C + 1/2 O2 ---> CO

The initial amount of C is 39 grams. To solve for the grams CO produced:

mass of CO = (39 grams / (12 g/mol)) * (1 mol CO/ 1 mol C) * (28 g/mol)
                    = 91 grams of CO
